SUMC Strategic Initiatives
- Spiritual Growth
Initiative
Establish a core study program including appropriate “electives” that offer a
well-rounded approach to spiritual development. Define the core courses and
electives and offer at least one core course by 9/05. (Caring, Education &
Small Groups)
- Lay Leadership
Initiative
Establish a ministry that attracts, connects, trains, and sustains leaders at
SUMC, including a course of study for training members about leadership within
the church. Select curriculum by 2/05. (Lay Leadership, SPRC, Education,
Small Groups & Stewardship)
- Expanded Church
Worship Initiative
Choose at least two additional service types and/or times, and initiate
services by 9/05. It is anticipated that one of these will target youth.

- Home Worship
Initiative
Initiate small group worship in homes during the week, either as supplemental
to or in place of Sunday worship. Start at least two such groups by 12/05.

External Community Needs Initiative
Initiate an external program that reaches either the Generation X or
Generation Y demographic by 1/06. (Evangelism & Missions)
- Non-Anglo Ethnic
External Community Needs Initiative
Initiate an external program that reaches a non-Anglo ethnic group by 9/06.

- External Partnership
Directed at the Unchurched
Establish a partnership with another community organization, targeting the
unchurched population, by 9/06. (Evangelism & Missions)
- Resource Management
Establish an organizational development plan, including policies and
procedures to effectively utilize our human, physical, and monetary resources
in the accomplishment of the Vision. Create first draft of policy and
procedure manual by 1/05. (Council, SPRC, Facilities & Stewardship)
