NCD 3-Color Profile (Trinitarian Compass) Survey Outcome

Skyline’s survey results reveal us to be a primarily (75%) “Left Pole” congregation. The right pole theological outcomes listed in the pink column on the chart to the right would probably bring greater balance to our congregation.

The results of a continued lack of balance in our congregation could lead to the dangers listed in the dark blue column on the chart to the right.

This survey result indicates we would benefit greatly from an intentional ministry to connect spiritual gifts and offices/ministries.

The survey indicates that our church is a predominately Spirit-Driven congregation, focusing on the power of the Holy Spirit. Over half the respondents identified with this theology. Half that number, or nearly a third of our congregation, identified with wisdom (or Creator) theology. Half that number, or 15% of the congregation, identified with the theology of commitment. Focusing on this area will restore overall congregational imbalance.
Three-quarters of our congregation members start out from the perspective of “Mary”, “Peter”, and “Jonah”. Next steps for these “starting points” include: relating our wonderful gifts to concrete tasks (red segment) in a strategic way (green segment); valuing the gifts identification and implementation process, especially understanding the theory behind NCD; and embracing a commitment to the needs of others. Our “Thomases” can help greatly with relating gifts to tasks/offices, and with reflection and planning.

A graph of the midpoints of various groupings reveals that while the overall (OA) average of all survey respondents is solidly in the “power/blue” area, we perceive our congregation to be more “commitment/red” oriented. Our leadership average midpoint does move toward this orientation. This chart also shows that we are attracting people who are “power” oriented, that our youth move toward a wisdom orientation, and that our Book Club represents one of the most theologically balanced groups surveyed in the church.

A word about “starting points”.

NCD 3-color profile materials identify six “starting points” or natural theological tendencies through which individuals live in strength and from which we can grow into greater theological balance. These starting points are known by the Biblical characters that best express each one. Three starting points represent the three primary theological orientations (wisdom, commitment, and power) and the other three represent the three combinations that chart between any two of them.

1.       Thomas (Wisdom 11%) Strength is mentally relating the gifts identified to tasks. Challenge is relating your gifts to real tasks (not just holding the right theory on the subject). SUMC can profit from your wisdom.
Martha (Commitment 6%) Strength is willingness to serve. Challenge is gift discovery (power) and reorganizing your ministry involvement in light of these new discoveries (green). If you focus your ministry involvement, your sense of power will match your dedication.
Mary (Power 36%) Strength is God’s power in you – far more than is presently being used for others. Challenge is relating your wonderful gifts to concrete tasks (red) within Skyline in a strategic way (green). This will empower you even more!
Moses (Wisdom/Commitment 6%) Strength is capability to reflect on your own and others ministry involvement – you are a natural leader in our church. Challenge is to nurture your emotions. Gifts discovery may be most valuable to you among all the starting points.
Peter (Commitment/Power 24%) Strength is energy and commitment to be active in ministry. Challenge is to familiarize yourself and to think through the theory behind theological balance and understading in order to be more effective in ministry.
Jonah (Power/Wisdom 17%) Strength is understanding gifts (power) and deployment (wisdom). Challenge is commitment to the ministry needs of others – your activities are exclusively determined by yourself. Your are powerful – harness your power for God’s glory.
