From an in-depth look at Prayer, we turn to the community of saints that prayer makes possible. The church is a peculiar form of community, especially in a post-modern world. We offer an experience of God through the relationships and practices of the people who gather to worship God in homes, the sanctuary, at soup kitchens and on summer mission teams, and in fellowship experiences of large and small groups - on the softball field or gathered for a pot luck meal. This community, gathered by God, offers to everyone who chooses a place to belong.
Our community is defined by several specific practices and values. Each of the five weeks in this series, we will explore a different one of these values: Supportive Community, Unique Relationship with Christ, Partners in ministry, Experiential Worship, and Relational Reaching - the first letters of which spell the word: SUPER! Each of us brings a different perspective and a different gift or contribution to these values and the practices they define. But we become something together than none of us can be separated form each other. In democracy, we understand that for the freedom and good of the community, some individual freedoms must be sacrificed. In God's community, we only come to fully understand and realize who God has created each of us to be as we find ourselves in the community called Christ's Body, of which we all are a vital part. Join us the next few weeks for an exploration of the gift God has given us in each other - the communion of saints gathered at Skyline. |
