Get ready for the Grove!! This summer, we will offer worship in the Grove every other week at our normal worship time. Join us at 10:00 a.m. in the Grove on the following Sundays: June 13 & 27, July 11 & 25, August 8 & 22. The other Sundays, we will worship as usual indoors.

olan millsThe Church Directories have arrived! See Natalie Outslay in the foyer before or after service on Sundays to receive your copy. In the meantime, use the online directory by going to our website and clicking on the OM Plus icon. When you get to the online directory, enter the password: “Jer2911” (no spaces, and make sure to use a capital “J”) and enjoy this great way to get to know people in our wonderful church better. The best part about our online directory is that you can easily update (or add) your picture or contact information. E-mail pastors@skylinechurch.net with changes or add requests, or submission of your digital photo. If you’d prefer sending us a hard copy photograph, just mail or drop one off at the church office – we’ll scan and return it to you.

Online GivingYou can contribute to Skyline UMC online! You can make a financial gift to the church from your bank account, debit or credit card on a one-time or recurring basis.

Announcements - August 22, 2010

Thought for Today:  There are those who make things happen; those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND:
Worship in the Grove this Sunday, August 22 at 10:00 am.  (See the announcement below about the picnic in the Grove on August 29.)

The next Peer Supervision Meeting will be held this Sunday, August 22 at 1:30 pm in Room 19.

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Evangelism Pathway is making a welcome DVD to hand out at events and to Skyline visitors. The theme of the video is "Why Skyline". Bo will be filming on 8/28/10 from 10am-2pm in the Sanctuary. Interested in sharing why you choose Skyline as a place to come and worship? Contact Julie DiMatteo (610) 888-7471 or julofthesky@gmail.com to schedule your time (15-20 minutes). Thank you!

Fundraising Volunteers: Members interested in participating in, and heading up, fundraising initiatives, please contact Tom DiCampli (757-3583 or thomasdicampli@yahoo.com). Due to the present state of financial affairs of SUMC, it is important that we utilize the tremendous talent & enthusiasm of our membership to raise funds. We need your help in order to meet our financial obligations and to continue the good works God has called us to do.

Women of Faith Conference: Two tickets remain for the conference on Sept. 10 & 11.  $89 includes Friday day & night and all-day Saturday conferences, plus box lunch for both days. Join 23 of us for this annual retreat-from-reality! Contact Barbara Ann (barbaraann@dca.net or 530-0844) for more info or to register.

Candidates Night at Skyline – Volunteer Needed: The Pike Creek Valley Civic League requests the help of Skyline in hosting another “Candidates Night” in October before November elections. It’s a good opportunity for the community to meet local and state candidates and hear how they stand on important issues. The community will also have an opportunity to ask questions of the candidate. We’re looking for someone at Skyline to work with the PCVCL and M.C. this event. If interested in spearheading this event, which is also a good community outreach, please contact the church office at 737-9069 or office@skylinechurch.net.

Bus Trip to New York City:  Jesus House Ministries is sponsoring a fundraiser trip to New York City to see the musical “Jersey Boys” on November 3.  They have had such a heavy response that they’ve added an additional bus, and seats are still available.  “Jersey Boys” is the story of Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons.  Departure is from Jesus House at 8:30 a.m. on November 3.  Lunch options are available.  Show time is 2:20 PM at August Theater, 245 West 52nd St.  Departure immediately following the show.  Cost: $145/person.  To register, call Leone Tours (856) 797-1888 or mail check to Leone Tours, 46 Lexington Circle, Marlton, N.J. 08053

PRIOR ANNOUNCEMENTS:
MARK YOUR CALENDAR - BBQ Picnic & Ice Cream Social in the Grove on August 29 after worshipping in the sanctuary.  Curtis Marker will once again prepare chicken on the grill for a picnic lunch & fellowship after service.  Plan to bring a side to share.  Ice Cream & fixings will be provided by the “Spirited Singles” for a “Make Your Own Sundae” dessert.  Please join us for this end-of-summer fellowship event in the Grove.

During worship, the Holy Spirit surrounds us, & specific prayer-needs come to mind. It brings great relief to entrust these concerns of our heart to God, via our praying team, and leave church knowing our cares are securely in God’s grip. Thanks to those praying with us following Sunday services.

Need a Meal?  Are you or someone you know in our congregation, moving to a new home, expecting a new addition to the family, having surgery or come down with an illness and in need of a meal? Contact our Meal Coordinator, Colleen Doyle at 588-3669 or cmc2577@hotmail.com.

Skyline Church is pleased to make greater strides to “go green”. We’re encouraging everyone to bring their own coffee mug from home to save our environment from the waste of the coffee cups. Please be sure to take your mug home with you after service; we will not be responsible for washing mugs left behind.

Skyline-Sponsored Blood Bank Benefit: Skyline has become a “group” in order to sponsor memberships for you. The Blood Bank is even waiving the first year’s fee! See Karen Boyce for forms or questions.

Thank you, Stephen Ministry Team! Every day, you go out using your training & supervision to extend the caring reach of our church. We’ll soon celebrate one year of this program at Skyline. Watch for a new training class; please continue prayerful support of this vital part of our church. If you or someone you know, would like to request care, or become a caregiver, please contact Barbara Pope (610-357-4711).

Books For You!  Spiritually-based books are in the corner of the foyer for you to borrow. You can also donate any that you have. We hope that you’ll enjoy this new adventure! For more info, contact Karen Boyce or Ruthann DeJuliis.

The summer program is in gear. Older children who want to participate in the play in Sept. should go to the Chapel after children’s blessing. Children ages 3-6 should go to Room 3 where we’ll have a mini-lesson and end up in the play area next to the upper parking lot. Parents should pick up their kids there.

Weekly Church Cleaning: Volunteers are still needed to assist with the weekly cleaning of the church. If interested in helping, please sign up on the Facilities bulletin board or contact Jamie McIlvain at ruggerjamie@comcast.net.

Thanks to those cleaning volunteers who work hard every week to clean & maintain our facilities.

Andrew’s Place: We are taking a summer break during July & August, and will resume this ministry again on Sept. 18.

Epiphany House: We’re currently preparing & serving the women at Epiphany House at 722 N. Union Street on the 2nd Sunday of each month. Our next opportunity is Sunday, August 8th at 5:30 pm.  Epiphany House is sponsored by Friendship House & can house up to 6 women. If interested in participating or just have questions, please contact Barb Weaver at 690-2313 or bjweaver1@comcast.net.

Thanks to all who participated in the Mission opportunities throughout the past year. Your love & dedication to serving and showing God’s love to others as a member of Skyline truly touches my heart. I am deeply blessed to be part of this faith community at Skyline and look forward to continuing working with you all in the future. If you have volunteer opportunities you’d like to see Skyline explore, forward them to Barb Weaver at 690-2313 or bjweaver1@comcast.net.

SKYLINE BOOK GROUP invites you to join them on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7pm. We are meeting at the home of Colleen Doyle (Arundel) to discuss The Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson. Vacationing or Out of Town? Keeping current with financial contributions, especially at this time, enables us to meet current bills and we offer the following for your convenience: 1) Pick up envelopes placed near collection baskets & mail your check to the church office; 2) Make an online contribution through our website; 3) Arrange with your bank to make automatic payments. Thanks for your consideration of these options & your continuing generosity!

Enjoy the convenience of electronic giving - We’d like to remind you that we offer electronic giving as a way to automate your regular weekly offering. Electronic giving offers convenience for our members and much-needed donation consistency for our congregation.  There are two ways to set up electronic donations. You can visit the church website at www.skylinechurch.net, locate the donation link and follow the instructions or, if you wish, you can simply complete a paper authorization form and return it to the church office.  As you contemplate future contributions, please consider electronic giving. Authorization forms and additional information are available from the church office.  Thank you!

Emily Bissell:  Thanks to Arlene Rockwell & Curt Lawson for joining Karen Boyce at the Emily Bissell service on August 8. The next service is on September 12. The residents look forward to our service & fellowship, so please consider giving them an hour of your time. Join us once or many times, and bring your children if you like. See Karen Boyce for information or questions on this enjoyable ministry.
