1. When do you hold worship?

Our main worship is on Sunday mornings at 10:00, in our main sanctuary located at 3100 Skyline Drive, at the corner of Skyline Drive and New Linden Hill Road, about mile from Goldey Beacom College.

2. What do you wear in worship?

We're a truly "come as you are" kind of place. Dress casual, or however you feel comfortable. Most of us wear comfortable slacks, or jeans, but you won't necessarily feel out of place in a dress or a suit.

3. Can my children join me in worship - or do you plan something especially for them?

Our nursery (staffed with paid and volunteer caregivers), located on our lower level, just as you enter, will lovingly care for your infant or toddler during the worship service.

We invite all children to join us for the opening 15 minutes of our worship, when we sing together and invite all children to join one of our pastors at the front of the sanctuary for a special time together, after which they are invited to participate in our children's Christian education activities (K-5th grade)in our lower level, which continue through the end of worship.

We offer youth Bible studies Sunday mornings from 9-9:45 in room 19 (Middle School and High School), as well as a youth group fellowship time Sunday evenings from 7-8. We encourage youth to participate in our worship services.

5. What is Communion and what are the rules?

Communion (also called the Lord's Supper and the Eucharist - a Greek word meaning "Thanksgiving") is one of the two primary sacraments regularly observed by Christian Protestant churches. The traditional definition of sacrament is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual reality. Methodists believe, together with most Christians, that Jesus Christ directed his followers to remember his presence with them as they regularly observed the practice of this symbolic meal, perhaps during his own observance of the Passover Meal with his Disciples the night before he was crucified (please see Matthew 26:26-30, Mark 14:17-26, Luke 22:14-38, 1 Corinthians 10:16-17, and 1 Corinthians 11:23-27.

The last verses in the 1 Corinthians 11 passage above encourage us to examine ourselves in order to participate in the observance of Holy Communion in a worthy manner. We believe it is Jesus Christ whose love, forgiveness and grace makes us worthy - and that our participation in Holy Communion can ultimately be a celebration of this worthiness God alone has made possible through love. To treat this love carelessly or without gratitude may be what Paul had in mind by warning the church in Corinth against participating in the Lord's Supper in an unworthy manner.

At Skyline, we invite everyone to the Communion Table who is looking fervently for God, who rejects anything or any way of life that might impede their connection with God, and who seek to live in peace with God and with all people. We celebrate Communion as part of our Sunday worship monthly. During that ceremony, we extend this affirmation and invitation:

This is the Table, not of the Church, but of the Lord.
It is made ready for those who love God and for those who want
to love God more. So come, you who have much faith and you who have little,
you who have tried to follow, and you who have failed.
Come, because it is the Lord who invites you.

We distribute the Communion elements (bread and grape juice) via intinction, which means we invite persons to come to one of several Communion stations at the front of the church, where they receive a piece of bread which they dip into the cup and then eat. We do not drink out of the cup.
